Every time Giancarlo has dropped new music through Hunters of the Alps in the past eight years, there’s always so much about each track to appreciate. Whether it’s his echoing voice or the consistently high-quality production, he has lots to offer when he returns.» –Grimy Goods

Miami, FL – August 26, 2024 – Hunters of the Alps, the bilingual music project led by Peruvian-American artist Mario Giancarlo, announces the release of their new single «Naufragio» out now. The song comes as the second offering from their upcoming EP ROMA, which will be available in October via Cosmica. The first track, «Dry Run» was released last month during LAMC. Accompanying the new song is a video featuring digitized VHS footage from family trips, offering a visual representation of the single’s themes.

«Naufragio,» the first track from ROMA to be released in Spanish, explores the emotional impact of Mario Giancarlo’s mother’s journey into Alzheimer’s disease. The song was a turning point in the creation of the ROMA EP, with its themes of memory, loss, and the struggle to preserve dignity in illness. Mario collaborated with Miami-based musician MillionYoung to create the psych new wave sound that drives the track, while Latin Grammy-winning producer Ryan Haft skillfully mixed the track, balancing guitar delays and reverb with the prominence of the synths.

Reflecting on the creation of «Naufragio,» Mario Giancarlo shared, «Most of the thematic of ROMA sparks from the inception of Naufragio. The song was born, written, and conceived upon realizing my mother would begin her journey into Alzheimer’s. Your world suddenly becomes a folder of collections and moments as you try to hold on to the memories that make up your relationship with a loved one.»

The video for Naufragio is composed of scattered clips from old VHS tapes, mirroring the fragmented nature of memory as depicted in the song. These personal visuals aim to connect the audience with the emotional depth of the track.
